In 1992, the creator of Autopilot, Dr. Daniel Proville, began to study Chaos Theory and its potential for diverse and powerful financial applications. Chaos Theory finds the patterns and order buried within seemingly random systems, from the growth pattern of a tree branch to the price movements in FOREX. Just as Quantum Mechanics replaced Newtonian physics in accurately explaining phenomena on the atomic and sub-atomic levels, Chaos Theory is just beginning to replace the traditional way in which we have explained seemingly random phenomena that affect our daily lives.
Chaos Theory has the ability to draw a more accurate picture of market action and sentiment than any other approach. Linear techniques from classical physics, on which today’s most common technical indicators are based, (MACD, RSI, Stochastics, Bollinger Bands, etc.) don’t make consistent profits in the non-linear markets of the real world. Simply put, the Chaos Theory based, non-linear, fractal approach that Autopilot employs does.
Rather than trying to predict an exact path or future target of a price, a vain and costly exercise often employed by traditional trading systems, Dr. Proville created the Autopilot method as a tool to ascertain the correct direction and timing of a trend before it begins. Autopilot is a representation of the market as an energy field in which prices move with difficulty in the face of friction or with ease and acceleration in its absence. Autopilot’s power rests in its ability to graph this relationship, identify trends, and use simple visual clues to gain an edge in the seemingly chaotic market.
